Doctor Lottie is the creation of a family of busy working mums, dads and grandparents. Having read a lot of books for young children, we noticed that there are almost none that feature a busy, working mum as a lead or main character. We thought that was odd, and in our experience doesn’t reflect real life. Doctor Lottie is a character that many people will recognise, and having a mum who goes out to work is a normal part of life for a great many children. Why shouldn’t a busy, working mum be the main character?
Having held several senior positions in the NHS, civil service and Health Protection Agency, both in clinical practice as a doctor and in management, Pat is now busier than ever as a grandma to three extremely active children.
As a former small business owner and (still) househusband, Mike now spends a lot of time chasing grandchildren.
Eleanor is a busy working mum, juggling being a GP and a mum to three young children.
Gareth is a dad to three young children, and a project manager specialising in the railway industry.
Charlotte, a full-time translator, is a busy working mum to a lively little girl.
Anton, a dad to an energetic little girl, is an editor and manager specialising security, risk assessment and corporate intelligence.
